Why does the 192x64 need more than one chip select?
The SBN0064G drives 64 columns at a time, so 192 columns are handled by three column drivers selected with separate chip enable lines. Firmware written for a single chip select 128x64 has to be extended with the extra enables before it will fill the full width.
How much memory does the 192x64 frame buffer take?
192 x 64 dots at 1 bit per dot is 1536 bytes, which usually means a dedicated display RAM or an MCU with more than 2 KB of free RAM.
Can the 192x64 replace a 128x64 in an existing product?
Only if the cut-out and the interface allow it. The 192x64 is wider and needs the extra chip enable lines, so it suits a redesign rather than a drop-in swap. Send us the drawing and we will check.
